Saturday night’s finale includes the country concert – folk, rock and pop country music by local musicians.
First up at 8pm, are the newcomers Aurora Fall. The duo of Jasmine and Mellanie are both singer-songwriters born and raised in Newcastle.
Performing for three years together, the girls have combined, their individual taste and talent in music to come up with their unique sound that includes their powerhouse vocals.
Aurora Fall has been winning local singing competitions that have helped them gain experience and further their passion for their pop-folk style. They are due to release their first single at the end of the year.
Next on line up at 8.30pm is 2018 Golden Guitar winner Matt Scullion.
He is one of the most respected singer/songwriters to come out of Australia in recent years. Matt’s songs have been recorded by the likes of Cold Chisel, Lee and Tania Kernaghan, Drew McAlister, Adam Harvey, Amber Lawrence and Travis Collins to name a few- 17 of his songs have gone to number 1.
He has spent the past six years in the home of country – Nashville, Tennessee honing his craft and is now back in Newcastle with a swag of new country rock tunes and a brand new album – I’m Just A Song.
Matt’s latest single ‘Favourite Distraction’ has been blowing up the radio and his songwriter show, The Scullion Sessions, at the Stag and Hunter Hotel at Mayfield has become a staple with music lovers here in Newcastle.
Look out for tour dates throughout 2018 as Matt promotes his new album – I’m Just A Song. He is going to play some songs off this album tonight.
After Matt, will be the show’s popular firework spectacular, by the Fireworks Factory of Maitland, they produce for us here at Newcastle Show, the largest show fireworks outside of Sydney. This year, Hunter Readymixed Concrete are fireworks sponsors.
Then at 9.30pm, Kristy Coote and her band will continue the night’s concert with her pop country music.
The local performer’s career spanning more than a decade, she has been a finalist in the 2016 and 2018 International Songwriting Competition as well as 2016 finalist for the Australian Independent Music Awards.
Influenced by Ingrid Michaelson and Sheryl Crow, Kristy’s acoustic, rootsy brand of pop music has taken her on a worldwide journey, resulting in songs being placed into rotation on radio stations in the US, Bermuda, and Australia and performing nationally with GanGajang and in the US with Tyrone Noonan of George and Jason Singh of Taxiride.
Her new singles ‘Free Wind’ and ‘Favourite Thing’ and album, Favourite Thing, were recorded and produced in Nashville, Tennessee. Music.com.au gave this album four stars and ‘a must listen’ recommendation. She will play some of these tunes for us.
